Engagement rings: Their history and importance

Engagement rings are a symbol of love and romance. Exchanging engagement rings with your loved one is considered one of the best ways to propose marriage and to express your feelings. The tradition of exchanging rings is not new. The rings have always been an important part of wedding ceremonies.

Have you ever wondered how the tradition of exchanging rings came into being and why so much importance is attached to engagement rings? The origin of rings can be traced to Roman society. In Victorian society too, the rings were exchanged by couples. In the 19th Century, the popularity of diamond engagement rings grew after the mines were discovered in Africa. This brought down the prices of diamonds and more people were able to afford diamond engagement rings.

Today, engagement rings have become an integral part of wedding celebrations in most societies. So much so, some people may actually hold off on proposing until they can afford a luxurious diamond ring! The engagement rings are available in a wide range of styles and designs. Whether we talk of round diamond rings or heart shaped diamond rings, there are many types of rings available for people who’re planning to get engaged.
